Yeah, I know that I've got an accent

I recently had to get in contact with customer service, and was routed to a call center in India. The service rep was very nice, but spoke such heavily accented English that I was having serious trouble understanding him. He kept trying to tell me something, and I kept having to ask him to repeat it. Finally, I understood. He was trying to tell me that he couldn't understand me because of my  Southern accent. I had a good laugh, and was eventually routed to someone who could translate Southern Appalachian speech.

Hubby has had so many Indian students by now that he speaks and understands "Indian-English" quite well. He has no southern accent left.
I, on the other hand, sound like I just escaped northern Mississippi yesterday.
This is not a bad thing however. When I go shopping in this Midwestern town, I can guarantee that any man who waits on me will get a kick out of my accent!

I come from Minnesota and I thought my accent was "generic television announcer American" but apparently not quite because when I moved to California everybody thought I was from Canada. Now that I live in Northern Wisconsin I can hear myself picking up that accent quickly. I think I was born to live here!

i have a Canadian friend. Everyone down here assumes that he's from the midwest!

I thought I would pick up the midwestern accent but the visits down south keep my accent well oiled.
