We were lucky to have him.

It's the 70th anniversary of Lou Gehrig's "luckiest man alive" speech. The 4th of July is the perfect time to remember a humble, courageous American icon.

I cry every time I hear that speech.

I've heard or read his brief remarks from time to time, brought by teachers and collegues and friends, and passed them to others.
I too feel strengthened, in a way that reinforces the conclusion of the Declaration whose anniversary we keep today: "...we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor."
Thanks again fro posting this.
