Unchained trivia
Jan. 24th, 2009 08:35 pmSong of the day: "Unchained Melody"
Someone asked me how this song got its name. I am a music trivia buff and just happened to know. "Unchained Melody" was the theme song for the 1955 movie Unchained, the story of a prison without walls. Incredibly, it was nominated for an Academy Award as best song, but came in fifth! It charted several times in 1955 and my favorite of these is the Roy Hamilton version. The 1965 Righteous Brothers rendition is my favorite version and the best known. It's associated with the movie Ghost.
"Unchained Melody" is the only song to reach #1 on the U.K. charts for 5 different artists.
Dexter Gordon, jazz saxophonist, had a small role in "Unchained." His most notable role was in the movie Round Midnight.
