Wilkes Community College hosted Merlefest a few weeks ago. Last Tuesday, 7 inches of rain fell in under 6 hours on already saturated ground, causing Moravian Creek to jump its banks. Water covered gardens, tennis courts, walking trials, parking lots, and the ground floors of several buildings. This will amaze people who live in the midwest: the water receded by afternoon. The flash floods in these hills and mountain valleys come and go quickly. Tomorrow, I'll post some pics that I took of the gardens before the flood.
