waiting for the butterflies

Every spring, a huge cloud of butterflies gathers on the creekbank. Hundreds of them, mostly tiger swallowtails with a few black swallowtails thrown in. I'm practicing with the digital camera so that I can record them. If I film them, how can I post the video on LJ? I only know how to swipe stuff from other websites or print pics from my computer.

Why not post it on Utube and then offer us a link back to it?
I wish I knew how it was done so I could tell you.
It sounds really neat to me!
:)

I could try that. It's just a great experience. Todd says that I'll need to edit out the cowpats! The field were the butterflies gather is full of cattle.

Uh, the "meadow muffins" may be why the butterflies are gathering there. Butterflies have to get their minerals from somewhere, but flower nectar doesn't have many so the leavings are quite popular attractants for butterflies.
(So said my entomology prof in college.)

I had heard that the butterflies were attracted to the minerals in the cowpats, but didn't know if it was true. I know now.

Urine collected after a few beers is a prime attracter of large butterflies. Just splash a little on the ground in the flowerbed one evening and you'll have every butterfly in the county visiting you by noon the next day.
(Uh, I freely confess I know more useless facts..)
;D

Although I don't drink alcoholic beverages, I don't mind if others do. I'm trying to picture myself trying to persuade one of my beer-drinking male friends to come and tinkle on my flower beds. LOL.

Hubby went all prim and proper as an old maiden aunt on me when I made my request. (LOL!)
;D

I just can't see myself saying "Todd, Honey, please pee on the zinnias."

I agree with what rhodielady said. Post it to youtube and then link to it.

I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of the hummingbirds here. It's usually about 13-15th March that they return. But it's been so unseasonably cold, that it makes me worried. I might put out the feeders just in case...

Hummingbirds! I plant a lot of flowers that they like. One day, I was working in the flower beds, and something brushed my cheek. The hummers were actually flying close enough to brush against my face!

I would say post it on youtube but don't just link back to it. Post it in your journal by copying and pasting the 'embed' line on the right hand side of the screen when you are watching the video.

I'll try it.
